Price Waterhouse Coopers recently conducted an analysis of data
relating to the screening of potential employees on behalf of
a major Australasian corporation. The analysis revealed the
following:
16% of candidates screened had a major discrepancy with respect
to their previous employment. Examples included one candidate
who had been dismissed for having pornography on his work
computer and one who had been dismissed for inappropriate
behaviour.
25% of candidates screened had a minor discrepancy with respect
to their previous employment. Examples included differences
in work titles & positions as well as dates on which they
commence or ceased employment with their previous employer.
35% of candidates screened had some form of discrepancy in
relation to their Educational qualifications.
Around one quarter of curriculum vitae reviewed contain serious
falsifications. Despite this, few organisations have adequate
risk management procedures in place to provide checks and
balances for the security process.
